What Load Range Tire do I need?

  Every Tire made has a Load Range or Ply Rating. The Ply Rating comes from the original way Bias Tires were made. The Plys were cotton fiber layers. The more Cotton Layers the more Load carrying capacity they had. This is no longer ture with the modern Radial Tire. They are made with fewer Layers of material that are much stronger. Tire Manufacturers still use Ply Rating to designate the load the Tire can carry. The Tire Manufacture uses Load Range as well as ply rating. These Load Ranges use alphabetical designation. B load rating is a Standard load or 4 ply Rating. C Load Range is a 6 Ply Rating. E Load Range is a 10 Ply Rating. These Load Ratings will be visible on the Sidewall of the Tire. As well will be the Maximum Cold Tire Pressure. Passenger Tires have three different load ranges and can be a 2 or 4 Ply Tire. Tread Depth was the standard for Tire Life. When the Tire Tread was Low then you needed New Tires. Today, Tires are mostly made of Rubber. Rubber starts to Degrade as soon as the Tire is Manufactured. At about 5 years the Rubber in the Tire Degrades at a faster Rate. Even if  you Store the Tire in a Temperature controlled Room, the Tire is Degrading. Make sure you check the Age of brand new Tires. Heat, Cold, Sun and Ice can increase the Degrading Process. Most Car and Tire Manufacturers recommend replacing Tires every 6 Years.   Sometimes the Air coming out of the passenger's side is Cooler than the Air coming from the Vents on the driver's side. Most of the time the cause of this is the Car's Air Conditioning System is low on Freon. The Air Conditioning System in your Car is a Sealed System. The AC System will only be low on Freon if something is damaged or something comes loose. The only way to detect a Leak is with an Electronic Leak detector as Freon is colorless and odorless. The other way is to inspect the System components for Oil Residue. Some AC Systems will have a Ultra Violet Dye in the system and the Leak can be detected by a UV light. Rolling Resistance is the amount of energy you need to transfer to the Tires to keep the Tires moving at a consistent speed. New Rubber in a New Tire is more Flexible and takes more Energy to maintain that Speed. After several warm up cycles of the Tire the Rubber has a tendency to break in and have less Rolling Resistance. Other Engineered components of a Tire can also reduce Rolling Resistance.  The U.S. Department of Energy shows that using low rolling resistance tires can have a fuel savings of up to 10%.
