Incorporated in 1978, Apache Junction is named for the junction of the Apache Trail and U.S. Route 60, close to Superstition Mountain. Today, several historical structures are located in Apache Junction. Among them are studio sets and other Western paraphernalia saved from the 1969 Apacheland movie set fire, now on display at the Superstition Mountain Museum. Also in Apache junction is the ghost town of Goldfield, now a tourist attraction.
